What is Reiki?
Reiki is a non-invasive and deeply relaxing energy healing practice that brings balance to the mind, body, and spirit. Pronounced "ray-key", it means free passage of universal life force energy . Brief History The word and practice of reiki, originates from Ancient Tibetan Buddhist teachings. The practice was rediscovered by Dr. Mikao Usui in the 1800s, Japan. Like other Eastern medical philosophical practices, reiki is based on the belief that "physical and emotional impairments are linked to abnormalities of a person's energy or biofields." This belief has been proven through many scientific studies undertaken by world renown doctors, such as Dr. Gabor Maté, Dr. Joe Dispenza and Dr. Alberto Villoldo , to name a few.
How Does Reiki Work?
Reiki is typically a series of static hand-positions that are used and held over specific areas of the body, where minimal or no contact is used. These hand positions usually correlate with the physical landmarks of the different chakras used in the ancient and traditional practices of Ayurveda.
The universal life force energy comes through the practitioner's hands to the client, bringing about what the person's body needs. This process stimulates and facilitates the client's own healing ability to release any energy blocks (of mental and/or emotional nature) within themselves that would otherwise hinder or possibly prevent him/her/them from fully healing.
Disclaimer: During any reiki session, no harm ever comes to you, nor do you absorb any feelings or energy from the practitioner.
What is Universal Life Force Energy?
Universal life force energy is a term used to describe the energy or life force that is present everywhere in nature. It is the energy that comes from the Source of all living things and is referred to and has gone by different names depending on the religion and/or belief system.
Does Reiki Come From A Specific Religion?
Although its ancient practice stems from Tibetan Buddhist teachings, one does not have to identify, nor be a specific religion to participate in a reiki session. As defined by my mentor and reiki master, Daxa Chauhan, "Reiki can be defined as spiritually guided life energy that comes from the highest spiritual source." Take that in whatever way resonates for you.
